About Us

Lanier Federal Credit Union (LFCU), was Federally chartered in 1969 as a Not-for-profit Financial Cooperative to serve employees of Chicopee Manufacturing Company (a division of Johnson & Johnson).  (f/k/a Chicopee Federal CU)  Due to additional requests for services in 1982, the charter was approved to serve two groups affiliated with Chicopee which were Lawson Heating & Air and Norton Company. Thus the name change to Tri-Plant Federal Credit Union.

By 1990, LFCU received approval from NCUA, the National Credit Union Administration, to add other select employee groups, who were requesting the Credit Union's financial services. By 1992, LFCU had received more than 40 requests from employers seeking our products and services.  At that time it was determined that a name change (Lanier FCU) and relocation were imperative for the rapidly growing Credit Union in order to be convenient for all the members.  It was a Win-Win for everyone as employees were finally introduced to affordable banking with less, (if any) fees, lower loan rates, more flexible terms and higher dividends on their savings.

During 1999, Gainesville City Employees Federal Credit Union requested to merge with Lanier FCU which would enable their employee group to become eligible for all Lanier FCU's products and services. The merger resulted in LFCU's first branch office in Gainesville.

As the demand for Credit Union services continued to grow, the NCUA granted Lanier FCU a Community Charter which enables the Credit Union to expand its membership to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school within Hall County, GA.
